BIOGRAPHY    (Sona Mohapatra)

Sona Mohapatra is a singer, lyricist, and music composer. Sona has a B.Tech degree in Instrumentation & Electronics Engineering from the College of Engineering and Technology, Bhubaneswar. She has also done MBA in marketing & system. She had worked as a brand manager in Marico, an Indian goods company, where she handled brands like Parachute and Mediker. She followed her passion and came into the music industry after learning classical music for years.

 

Sona started her singing career with advertising. She recorded her first song for advertising Tata salt. Then she recorded for Unilever’s Close up in which she sang “Pas Aao Na”. The song Pas Aao Na was recorded in many languages and had been shown in thirteen countries for 4 years consecutively. In 2007, she released her first album “Sona” on Sony Records. After that in 2009, she released a single “Diljale”. Then she sang many songs like Ambersariya, Naina, Bedardi Raja from Delhi Belly, Jiya large Na from Talaash. Sona also has her own band comprising five people.

 

Sona Mohapatra came into the limelight after appearing as a lead singer in Aamir Khan’s famous talk show, Satyamev Jayate. Her song “Mujhe Kya Bechega Rupaiyaa” and “Ghar Yaad Aata Hai Mujhe” was the song by which she was praised by all Indians, as the song was based on women’s Freedom. Both of these songs have been recorded in many Indian languages.

 Besides being an artist, she is a social media activist who believes in standing up for social causes. She has around 2 million Facebook followers. She can also be seen in several top magazines such as “Femina”, “Elle” and Vogue. She along with her husband has started their own music production house, OwnGrown Music.
